MTh in Practical Theology
(Validated by a premier British University)
by Mattersey Hall, United Kingdom
in collaboration with Tung Ling Seminary, Malaysia

Date: 20 -25 July 2009

Introduction to the Colleges

a) Mattersey Hall Graduate School, United Kingdom.

Mattersey Hall
is the national Bible College of the British Assembly of God. It is also the largest Pentecostal Bible College in Europe.

Since 1990, Mattersey Hall has offered Master's Degree Programs.

2004 marked a major expansion of the college's commitment to graduate training with the establishment of the Mattersey Hall Graduate School . A graduate school is so much more than a degree programme – it offers a whole academic culture, which provides a coherent research focus, facilitates improved staff-student interaction and networking and enables more efficient administrative management, resulting in a vastly enhanced student experience at both academic and personal levels.

This Graduate School operates in close cooperation with the Department of Theology and Religious Studies of a leading British University and the graduate students are registered with the University as well as Mattersey Hall.

b) Tung Ling Seminary, Malaysia.

Tung Ling Bible College
was first established in Singapore in 1978 and since then has been successfully training Christians from all denominations and all walks of life. Tung Ling's aim is to be as a “Mountain in the East” where men can be prepared for ministry by God as instruments for the building of His house.

Tung Ling is a “School of the Spirit” and is essentially charismatic in nature.

In March 1993, an extension centre was set up in Malaysia to be better able to serve the Malaysian Churches. In Malaysia , it is registered as Tung Ling Seminary.

Since 1978, Tung Ling has equipped more than 5000 workers from different parts of the world.

The MTh in Practical Theology Program

Our Master of Theology, in Practical Theology, requires completion of four modules, examined in each case by a 5,000 word essay, and a dissertation of approximately 20,000 words.

You would take the degree part time over 2½ years, attending lectures for two weeks in July for two consecutive years and returning in the third year for additional research training and supervisory meetings. Each year you will study the two modules that will be offered.

A student may start work on his dissertation half way through the second and final year, when he has completed the work for all four modules.

Subjects

The subjects offered will include the following :-
a) New Testament Pneumatology
b) Pentecostal Approaches to Luke-Acts
c) Pentecostal Approaches to the Charismatic Gifts
d) Contemporary Preaching
e) The Theology of Leadership in the Emerging Church
f) Contemporary Biblical Interpretation.

You can find more information on the modules we offer here.

How the program works

•  Year 1 - 2 modules will be offered over 2 weeks in July – approximately 20 hours per module. A follow up visit will take place after six months. Students must complete 2 essays of 5000 words each and submit to Mattersey Hall for grading.

•  Year 2 – Similar to year 1

•  Year 3 – Student must complete a 20,000 word dissertation.

Grading of essays and dissertation will be done at Mattersey Hall , UK . Students can submit essays on line.

As a graduate student, you will receive regular and proactive support from your module and dissertation supervisors, as well as the assistance of Mattersey Hall Graduate School and the support services offered by Tung Ling Seminary.

All graduate students undertake our Research Training Programme (RTP) as part of their course, which provides an excellent introduction to study at this level. The RTP covers academic writing and research skills in particular, aiming to prepare students as effectively as possible for the dissertation phase. This training will be covered in additional class sessions in July of each year.
